The Tent Project · Ocean Grove, NJ
Four of these historic tent structures, owned by the Ocean Grove
Camp Meeting Association, and built in the late 1800s, had been burned
beyond repair in 2004. Cate designed a series of four separate
tents that conjoined like townhouses, with two-hour fire walls
between them. The open layouts of the tents provide space for
cooking, bathing and relaxing.
Originally intended for pilgrims of modest means, these canvas
and wood structures are still summer homes for the faithful,
from carpenters to opera singers who populate Ocean Grove each summer.
