An award winning architect, Cate Comerford specializes in traditionally designed homes, historic homes, and small houses. Since launching her own firm in 1995, she's won over 20 historic preservation awards. Her residential work has been featured in Period Homes, Design NJ and Jersey Shore Magazine.

A former resident of coastal New Jersey, Cate gained a reputation for her ability to transform older homes into more livable, open and functional spaces. Her residential portfolio includes grand Victorians, craftsman bungalows, seaside cottages and simple cabins.

Recently Cate relocated to the Pacific Northwest, settling on the Olympic Peninsula. As an advocate of both preservation and sustainable design, she comments, "Renovating or restoring an older home, as opposed to razing it and building new, is a very green thing to do. You reduce resource consumption, minimize the impact of construction, optimize existing infrastructure and create no new demand for land."

Her new homes reflect the "Not-so-big House" philosophy of author Sarah Susanka. They are small, architecturally stunning homes, "filled with flexible spaces and nooks, built-in cabinetry, and rich details". Their smaller size lessens their environmental impact when they are built and over their lifetime.

As a certified Interior Designer, Cate helps many of her clients complete their projects, by designing furniture layouts, choosing paint colors, window treatments and fabrics.

Cate Comerford has a Masters degree in Architecture and is licensed in Washington, New York and New Jersey.
